ROCKPORT, Texas — Fire crews in Aransas County were called to a massive brush fire off Highway 188 Thursday afternoon.
Officials said it started around 3 p.m. after a vehicle fire in the area sparked the brush around it and the fire began to spread. At least a half dozen fire departments from the surrounding area teamed up to battle the approximately 50-acre grass fire.
Thankfully no one was hurt, and none of the nearby homes were damaged.
"At least a couple vehicles that were burning," volunteer firefighter Kenneth Reeves said. "Not sure if any of them were usable. I don't know if they were junk cars or anything like that. A couple vehicles were burning, and a small travel trailer."
It is still unclear how exactly the first vehicle caught fire. Authorities said the Aransas County Fire Marshal will be in charge of that investigation.
