Owner claims missing donkey in Bee County

On Wednesday the donkey's original owner from George West came and picked him up!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Monday 3NEWS told you about how a Bee County sheriff's deputy captured a miniature donkey that was wandering along Highway 59. With community help, by Wednesday the donkey's original owner from George West came and picked him up!

Below is the initial story before the donkey was reunited with his owner.

A donkey was found in Bee County wandering along Highway 59 last night. He was finally captured by Bee County Deputy Gil Arizmendi.

Right now the little fella is being kept by a foster family until it's owner can come by.

The donkey appears to be a miniature donkey and has been temporarily named 'Stinker' because it doesn't exactly come when you call.

"We've been on Facebook and so forth trying to find it's owner, haven't had any luck at this point," Bee County Sheriff Alden Southmayd said. "Hopefully we will find the owner.  If we don't, then what will happen the donkey will have to be taken to the vet and he'll have to be Coggins tested and then they'll take it to the auction barn."

Coggins is the common name for a blood test used to screen horses, donkeys and mules for the potentially fatal disease 'Equine Infectious Anemia' or EIA.
