Buccaneer Commission commemorates new headquarters near American Bank Center

The new 5,000 sq. ft. facility was named in honor of the former Corpus Christi mayor and police chief Henry Garrett.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Buccaneer Commission has a new home in the SEA District.

Organizers held an appreciation party Thursday to commemorate the new 5,000 sq. ft. facility, but to also celebrate the volunteers that make Buc Days happen.

The Henry Garret building will house the Buc Days headquarters and can be used for as a community room for other nonprofits to use.

President and CEO Johnny Philipello says it took a lot of hard work and dedication to get this building done.

"The governing board said we need to have a permanent home close to where our signature event is, and they made a commitment to do it," said Philipello.

"They raised funds, they said we're going to figure this out and here we are in a beautiful building right next to the American Bank Center."

The new building is named in honor of the former Corpus Christi mayor and police chief Henry Garrett.
