CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery hosted a special Wreaths Across America ceremony Saturday. Hundreds of community members gathered to honor the city's veterans as 6,000 remembrance wreaths were laid on the graves of fallen heroes at the cemetery.

3News spoke with Nueces County's director of Veteran's Services, JJ De La Cerda about what those wreaths represent and why the ceremony is so important to our community.

"Your loved one is always with you, regardless of whether they've passed on before you or not, it's a symbol of eternity. They're always here with you and we're always here for you as well," said De La Cerda.

"This builds the community. It builds a relationship between you and another person that you don't necessarily know, but you're both experiencing the same thing."

The event is held annually to show local veterans and their families that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
