Capital murder suspect's identity is released in fatal Camargo Drive fire

Family and neighbors held a candlelight vigil Tuesday night to honor the memory of Alicia Anzaldua.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Residents in a Corpus Christi South Side neighborhood are on high alert after police responded to a fatal house fire on Monday that resulted in the death of one woman.

Police are now searching for 48-year-old Abraham Anzaldua, the person of interest in the fire in the 2700 block of Camargo Drive that killed 67-year-old Alicia Anzaldua. He is believed to be her son.

On Tuesday, neighbors and family gathered at Alicia Anlzaldua's home to honor her memory in a candlelight vigil.

Velda Vela was one of many family members in attendance who came to pay her respects. She said her presence is one that will undoubtedly be missed.

"She was loved dearly by her friends and family. She was a strong woman," she said.

Senior Corpus Christi police officer Jennifer Collier said they are currently searching for Anzaldua, who was last seen leaving in his black 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck before the fire started.

Collier said she urges the community to exercise caution.

"We ask that the public not approach this individual: He is dangerous," she said. "So just contact 911 so we can take him into custody."

Neighbors in the area were also on high alert. A woman who lives a few houses down the street and wished to remain anonymous provided an eyewitness account of what she saw.

"Shortly before we saw the fire. Actually, that was the smoke. We saw her son driving off," she said.

One resident, who goes by the name Mark, said that he also wants to see Anzaldua behind bars.

"I hope they do catch him because that lady didn't deserve to die like that," he said.

Collier said that the investigation is still ongoing. Residents with information on Anzaldua's whereabouts are encouraged to call the department's non-emergency number at 361-886-2840.
