CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two people died after a car crashed into a utility pole and fence on Carroll Ln. early Wednesday morning as the driver was fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash, officials with the Corpus Christi Police Department said.
The driver of the car hit another vehicle on Highway 358 near Carroll Ln. just before 3 a.m., and was running from that scene when the deadly crash happened, Sr. Ofc. Gena Pena with CCPD said.
The car hit a utility pole and went through a fence. It landed in the yard of a home on Carroll Ln. and Brawner Pkwy.
CCPD Officer Antonio Contreras confirmed the three crash victims are female and in their mid-twenties.
"Traffic investigators were called out to the scene," he said. "They arrived and they were able to determine that the vehicle that had crashed was previously involved in an accident prior to this crash. And that hit and run accident was on Highway 358, in the area of Highway 358 and Everhart Road."
Two people, the driver and front passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. A backseat passenger was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive, Pena said.
