CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi is moving forward with hiring a new health director for the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, a position that has been vacant for quite awhile.
It has been six months since Annette Rodriguez was fired form her position as the area health director. She was with the agency for more than two decades and led the agency through the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 1, 2022, the City of Corpus Christi took over the health district and decided they wanted to go in a different direction, firing Rodriguez.
Today, Zanoni told 3NEWS they've hired a new health director to take that vacant position.
"We do have a health director that will be starting soon. We haven't made the announcement yet of exactly who because that individual is still finishing up in their current employment," Zanoni said. "But, we're all excited that we have a top notch professional after a pretty extensive recruiting effort."
Zanoni added that the new director will start their position sometime in the next six to eight weeks. Right now, all we know is that the new director is from out of state. They asked the City not to reveal their name until they give notice at their current position.
